Ear Health Check & Otoscopy
A clear, unhurried look inside your ear by a qualified clinician - useful when you're not sure whether wax is the cause, or as part of regular ear care.
What we check
- Outer ear and canal - skin condition, blockages, foreign bodies.
- Eardrum - colour, shape, signs of perforation or middle-ear pressure.
- Wax - amount, location and whether removal is needed today.
- Red flags - anything that should be referred to your GP or ENT.
FAQs
What is an ear health check?
A clinician-led examination of your outer ear, ear canal and eardrum using a medical otoscope (and, where appropriate, a video otoscope). We look for wax, infection, perforation and any signs of conditions that should be referred on to your GP or ENT.
When should I book a check rather than a wax removal?
Book a check on its own if you're not sure whether wax is the cause of your symptoms, if you have ear pain or discharge without obvious wax, or if you want a baseline before regular maintenance appointments.
Will you remove wax during the same visit if you find some?
Yes - if a small amount of wax is present and removal is clinically appropriate, we can usually treat it in the same visit, and we'll only charge our standard treatment fee.
How much does an ear health check cost?
£40 for a no-wax consultation (both ears). If treatment is needed and you go ahead on the day, the consultation is rolled into the standard £85 treatment fee.
What is the minimum age for an ear health check?
We see patients from 6 years old and above. For children under 6, we recommend asking your GP for an ENT referral first.
